What are the Differences Between the Original PlayStation 2 and the PlayStation 2 Slimline?

I've got a Playstation 2 Slimline for last Christmas (2008), here now 7 months later, I thought to myself "What are the Differences Between the Original PlayStation 2 and the PlayStation 2 Slimline?". This post will explain what are the differences between the 2 PS2's.

At first glance, we all could tell
what are the differences between the 2 PS2's sizes.

PlayStation 2 Original
1.) Has an expansion port for the hard drive add-on

2.) Internal power supply

3.) Ethernet port is a separate retail add-on.

4.) Louder than the Slimline.


PlayStation 2 Slimline (Slim for Short)
1.) Built in Ethernet port

2.) No expansion port for hard drive (and thus, no Final Fantasy XI, and other games that requires the hard drive)

3.) External power supply

4.) Some incompatibility issues reported in early models with PlayStation 1 games.

5.) Quieter than the original - and much smaller.

How many Models of PS3 Consoles are Out There!?!?

I don't know much about today's gaming consoles, and I know there are different models of the exact same consoles, such as Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3. So I've asked on the Gamers Lounge forum, what are the differences of each models of PS3, Xbox 360, and other consoles. One of the replys has 2 links from wikipedia, one of them is about the differences of PS3 consoles, which tells me there are 2 types of 80 GB PS3 consoles, so that kinda defeats my last review of the PS3 "PlayStation 3 Console Review: What if you spent a $100 more for a PS3?".

Lets start with the 20 GB Model of the PS3, it is only available in Piano Black, it has 4 USB Ports, SACD support, PS2 compatibility which use the Emotion Engine.







The 40 GB console is available in, Piano Black, Ceramic White, Satin Silver, and Gun-Metal Gray. It has 2 USB Ports, and 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi.








There are 2 kinds of 60 GB models, both of them is only available in Piano Black , 4 USB Ports, 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi, Flash card readers, SACD support, and PS2 compatibility. The only differences is the kind of PS2 compatibility it has, one of them uses the hardware "Emotion Engine", and the other 60 GB console uses the software to emulate PS2 games.





There are 2 kinds of 80 GB models to, one of them is like the 60 GB Model that has all of the features, and uses software as it's PS2 compatibility, and is only available in Piano Black, the downer of this 80 GB model is that it isn't in production. The 2nd 80 GB Model, which is currently production is available in Piano Black, Ceramic White, and Satin Silver, and only has 2 USB Ports, and 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi.




The last, and "Limited Edition" 160 GB model, it is in production, it's only in Piano Black, and only has 2 USB Ports and 802.11 b/g Wi-Fi. Basically like the 80 GB model that is currently in stores, but only twice in size in space.

PlayStation 3 Console Review: What if you spent a $100 more for a PS3?

I'll be getting screwed!!!!....... or am I?
Well that depends of what your looking at. What I have researched on is what is the difference between the 40 Gig PS3 and the 80 Gig PS3. If you spend a little more money on the 80 Gig PS3 you would get more features than the 40 Gig.



The 40 Gig PS3
Getting the Hibby GBs for getting a 40 GB PS3?
The 40 GB PS3 costs in the Retail store around $399.99. It'll have Blu-ray Disc Playback, Wi-Fi and Ethernet compatible. 2 USB Ports and plays PS1 games including additional software.


This newer model of PS3 can play CDs, DVDs, BDs, but NOT Super Audio CDS.

Not like the 20 GB PS3, this one has wireless networking.

The 80 Gig PS3
A simple math question. 40 GB + 40 GB = what ? The Answer: A better PS3
The 80 Gig has more than the 40 Gig. The only difference is that this one has 4 USB ports (which is 2X's more than the 40 Gig) Plays some PS2 games as well as all of PS1 games.


OOOOOOOOOO AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH... This PS3 has Built-in Memory Stick, Compact Flash, and SD Card Reader and plays Super Audio CDs, not like the 40 GB PS3

This PS3 also includes additional software. So it is better to lay out a few dollars for the 80 GB PS3 around a $100 more than the 40 GB PS3 retail price. This is what I've learned about the difference between the 2 PS3's.
